Some 38 people were killed in anti-government protests in Malawi on May 6-8, 1992. The demonstrations began with a demand by workers for higher pay. Seven officials of the Roman Catholic Church in Malawi signed a pastoral letter expressing concern about political corruption and repression.

Protesters force calf-export reforms
