Qantas takes a knife to retail commissions
Article Abstract:
Qantas Airways Ltd reduced commissions paid on sales of air fares between Australia and New Zealand from 9% to 5%, after reporting profits of $304.8 million for the first half of 1998. The airline also increased dividends from 13 cents a share to 13.5 cents. Travel agents protested that reduced commissions will put some of them out of business, and may cause passengers to receive poorer services.
