Railroad industry
Article Abstract:
Stocks in the railroad industry performed poorly in 1999 due to congestion at Union Pacific resulting from the Southern Pacific acquisition and other problems in both the Eastern and Western regions of the country. Many shippers are also transferring to other modes of transportation in response to these problems, but the industry is making efforts to take corrective action, however. These stocks are not timely for 1999 and the year 2000, but risk-tolerant investors may find some with long-term appeal.
