Real Networks hopes new streaming software will open up medium
Article Abstract:
Real Networks Inc. is offering improvements in the streaming technology that allows the transmission music and video over the Internet to personal computers with the introduction of new network server software. The test, or beta, version software uses a new standard for streaming technology called Synchronized Multimedia Integration Language (SMIL) which industry analysts hope will lead to a growth of streaming-media programming. SMIL allows WEB programmers to integrate audio, text and video in Internet broadcasts. The company, which has over 26 million registered users, has an 80% market share for its streaming software, such as Real Player G2.
