Regulators may push WorldCom, MCI
Article Abstract:
Antitrust regulators in the US and Europe are expected to call for a major divestiture of Internet capacity by either MCI Communications Corp. or WorldCom Inc. in exchange for approving their $37 billion merger. European regulators determined that the merged entity would control over 50% of the traffic on the Internet's "backbone" transmission network. European regulators are calling for the sale of either WorldCom's UUNet Technologies Inc. division or MCI's Internet assets.

Euro Commission, MCI, WorldCom strike merger deal
Article Abstract:
An agreement has been reached between the European Commission (EC), WorldCom Inc., and MCI Communications Corp., that should pave the way clear for the companies' planned $37 billion merger. Both companies satsified the EC's demand that they end any overlap in their activities on the Internet. The EC has called on MCI to eliminate its entire Internet business since both companies would not sell UUNET, a WorldCom subsidiary.
