The effects of globalization and securitisation are making it difficult to forecast the trends in the global economy, as the financial norms that were valid earlier are no longer the same. For example rising short-term interest and falling long-term interests would have been interpreted as tight monetary policy and likely contraction in economic activity. However, it is no longer understood as such.
