Ruling party loses parliamentary majority

The New Korea Party lost its majority in National Assembly elections on Apr 11, 1996. This loss was probably due to public disfavor with South Korean Pres Kim Young Sam, the party's leader, who was associated with earlier political corruption scandals.

The South Korean Democratic Liberal Party did not win a majority of seats in the Mar 24, 1992, general election for the country's National Assembly. The loss was the second straight one in which a ruling party has lost control of the legislature.
