Article Abstract:
The implications of the surging demand for oil and gas from China and other countries like South Korea and Italy, on oil prices and Australian energy resources, are discussed. Ironically, there is no shortage of energy resources. Instead the price of these resources is determined by the haphazard demand from developing countries.

Actual prices for crude oil have risen to the levels of the early 1980s, about $US36 a barrel. However, in reality existing prices are virtually half the price of 27 years ago.
