The latest budget policy paper, Maintaining Low Unemployment in Australia, which sets several goals for future budgets, is discussed. The paper discusses whether Australia will be able to achieve a sustainable unemployment level if at all the right workplace relations laws, vocational training programs, business incentives and welfare policies are put in place.

Kiwi comeback
Article Abstract:
New Zealand's big companies benefited from the strong economy over the past year, but the kiwi economy slowed in the current year with the growth of 0.2% as against 4.4% in 2002. The corporate sector however continued to benefit from a strong housing sector and consumer demand and tourism contributed $NZ6 billion to export revenue.

A review of employment in Australia is presented. It is anticipated the demand for workers will grow if more firms use electronic commerce. The unemployment rate has declined from 11.9% in 1992-93 to 6.7% in 2000. Youth unemployment remains a problem.
