Single and multiple period decision models for analysis of quality and quantity of validation
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to evaluate single and multiple period models and their impact on the quality of the validation effort. The study, which assumes that validation is a critical point process, extends the single period model to allow for an uncertainty factor. Two multiperiod models are also analyzed. Results show that the validation effort's quality exhibits a vital impact. In addition, multiperiod models form critical points different from their single period counterparts.

A model-based approach to investigate performance improvements in rule-based expert systems
Article Abstract:
An explicit control approach that allows a knowledge engineer to test the performance of a rule-based system using prior knowledge on the rule execution frequencies is presented. First, the rules that are invoked most frequently are determined, then the order in which the rules are to be evaluated is specified, thereby minimizing the unsuccessful rule executions. Lastly, a configurator expert system is used to demonstrate the feasibility of this model-based approach.

Determining differences in expert judgment: implications for knowledge acquisition and validation
Article Abstract:
A means of determining expert judgement incompatibility is presented. In knowledge acquisition in expert systems, the judgement of multiple experts may be aggregated to develop a single system but development of an average is not meaningful if the experts do not have similar world views. The statistical approaches of one-on-one comparison of similarity of pairs and comparison of different, a priori, groups of experts are considered.
