According to economists, Australian economy is showing the signs of growth slowdown in 2005-06. However, the economy is not shattered by this trend in growth. The factors that could help in improving on growth rates are discussed and growth rates for future are forecasted. Economic data relevant thereto like imports, exports, private investment, jobless rate, labor productivity, current account deficit, growth in average weekly earnings etc., is presented.

Economists believed that Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) would increase the official cash rate due to inflationary risk by only 50 basis points and would stay up for six month to a year and then drop back. This would have an effect on housing interest rates and servicing costs and would make the investors realize that shares would offer higher returns than residential property.
