Sony uses original PlayStation to boost PS2 sales
Article Abstract:
Sony Corp. is aggressively marketing its older PlayStation computer-entertainment system, priced at $99 in the hopes of promoting interest in its new PlayStation 2 which sells for $299. The company has devised a new ad campaign for the PlayStation and plans to increase production of the PlayStation 2. After announcing a loss for the quarter ending Sep. 30, 2001, the economic slowdown since the Sep. 11 terrorist attacks and layoffs of 5,000 employees, the company hopes its new marketing strategy will work. The new strategy is also aimed at competitors Nintendo Co. and Microsoft Corp. Both companies will introduce their new computer entertainment systems in mid-November.
