Stage of the Product Life Cycle, Business Strategy and Business Performance
Article Abstract:
The product life cycle (PLC) may be divided into four stages: introduction, growth, maturity, and decline. Each stage affects strategy formulation differently. For example, at product introduction, the strategy may be characterized by informative advertising, high pricing of products, and spotty distribution. In this study, the profit impact of market strategies (PIMS) data base was used. The strategy and performance of companies with products in three categories of growth, maturity, and decline were studied. Strategic variables can definitely influence return on investment (ROI) and market share. However, PLC is not the only determinant of business strategy.

Danger in the comfort zone
Article Abstract:
The low rate of productivity growth may be traced directly to the prevalent thinking of 'entitlement' among employees. Current legislation on dismissal of employees has helped fuel this attitude, resulting in a lack of concern for quality work and of dedication to achievement. Economic incentives need to be offered to promote industrial production. Management must direct its efforts toward encouraging exemplary performance by a reward and punishment system which is objectively implemented.
