Microsoft to open on-line realty service today
Article Abstract:
Microsoft today is introducing a World Wide Web site, HomeAdvisor, to enter the real-estate industry's lucrative electronic commerce segment. HomeAdvisor targets shoppers by offering property listings according to criteria that includes price range, neighborhood, schools and crime rates. Another feature consists of listing local agents who provide personalized services. The software giant also is registering as a mortgage-loan broker, so HomeAdvisor can direct consumers to lenders and gather origination fees. Online mortgages represent less than 1% of the market, but companies see believe they can reap benefits from advertising and referrals. Annual US home loans reach approximately $1.2 trillion. More established competitors, plus other businesses like travel and banking, are moving to thwart Microsoft's move.
