Taiwan takes control of Taichung Bank
Article Abstract:
The Taiwanese government has decided to seize Taichung Bank, which consequently has undergone investigation over its loan irregularities. The case involves the alleged channeling of NT$7.4 billion (US$227.8 million) of loans to companies. A group of nine Taiwanese banks agreed to help Taichung raise short-term funds. At least NT$5 billion has already been withdrawn from the bank by nervous customers.
