Tandy net fell 3.3% in quarter to $62.8 million
Article Abstract:
Tandy Corp will post a 3.3 percent drop in its 1st qtr revenue due in part to a lack of new product in its Radio Shack stores. Net for the quarter, ended Sep 30, 1989, was $62.8 million, down from $64.9 million in 1988. Tandy has been able to offset slow retail sales by manufacturing computers for others and expanding sales of subsidiary Grid Systems Corp. Even those efforts were not enough to overshadow the sluggish sales, however. Financial analysts and traders are extremely disappointed in Tandy's showing, and stock fell $1.375 a share upon announcement of the loss. As a result of slow progress in the home computer market, Tandy will instead focus on products aimed at the corporate market. These include a $1,000 laptop computer and easy-to-use software.

Dell Computer net in quarter jumped 90%, sales 68%
Article Abstract:
Dell Computer Corp reports a 90 percent increase in income and a 68 percent increase in sales for 3rd qtr 1991, ended Nov 3. Dell says net income for the 3rd qtr was $13 million, or 52 cents a share, compared to $6.9 million, or 34 cents a share, in the same period in 1990. Sales are $229.3 million, compared to $136.7 million last year. Even though price cutting and an overall economic slowdown hurt most computer companies, Dell says it has done well by cutting expenses and managing its money.
