Telecommunications overhaul approved by Congress, president

Congress approved a major telecommunications reform bill on Feb 1, 1996, and Pres Clinton then signed it. The new law will encourage more competition in the telephone and cable television markets and ease restrictions on media ownership. It also restricts obscenity on the Internet.

Congress moves on '94 appropriations

Congress passes final budget resolution

Congress has passed Pres Bill Clinton's proposed economic plan, which includes spending and taxation limits for FY 1994. The plan calls for the federal budget deficit to be reduced to $192.6 billion in FY 1997.
