Article Abstract:
The telecommunications services industry is expected to go through some interesting changes during the second half of 1997 and early 1998. Many of the Baby Bell companies are trying to get the FCC's approval to offer long distance service in their regions. The courts are expected to provide some clarification of the key issues surrounding the FCC's Interconnection Order, which spells out the steps for calculating fair interconnection rates. Article Abstract:
Newer and more efficient technology along with deregulation has been making the economic environment for the telecommunications services industry more competitive in the late 1990s. Consolidation, the Telecommunications Act of 1996, and the emergence of the Internet with the digital subscriber line are having an impact, as well. Investors must do research on individual share prior to commitment, although WorldCom is timely for 1998.
