Textile industry
Article Abstract:
Pricing for wool- and synthetic-fabric suppliers have been under pressure from Asian imports, although industry shipments in the US have remained steady and bed and bath and home fashion manufacturers have not been affected. Plant modernization, consolidation, and globalization have been some of the remedies that the industry has used to meet foreign competition, however. These stocks are not timely in late 1998 and investors need to be selective.

Textile industry
Article Abstract:
Legislation widening customs enforcement of illegal transshipments was introduced in Congress in Jun 1996, and will likely be passed in early 1997. This is expected to boost US fabric sales, but may also keep marginal mills alive. There is still overcapacity in the textile industry, although demand has increased during 1996 in several industry segments. Investors should seek textile industry stocks with good earnings and sound finances.
