The Bush fires again
Article Abstract:
Though the re-election of the George W. Bush as the president may bring in cheers for him; like the Vietnam war, the Iraq war will make the country economically weak. The cost of the Iraq war is around $US 100 billion a year. In 1973 America could afford the Vietnam war as it was an economically powerful creditor nation, but today it is a weak debtor nation and its negative position on net overseas assets is 30% of gross domestic product (GDP) and worsening. It has a current account deficit of almost ^% of GDP, which is also rising and is dependent on large purchases of United States bonds by the Japanese and Chinese central banks to help offset the deficit.
