The Maastricht fiscal drag will slow down the pace of expansion in Western Europe
Article Abstract:
The convergence criteria established by the Maastricht treaty on European Union for Economic and Monetary Union (EMU) membership are expected to further hamper economic expansion in Western Europe. The criteria cover inflation, long-term interest rates, exchange rates, budget deficits and government debt. The fiscal criteria involving budget deficits and government debt are the more crucial obstacles to entry in the EMU.

Forecasting for acquisition and joint venture projects
Article Abstract:
The price paid for corporate acquisitions and mergers and joint ventures should include a fair market valuation of the acquired company. Forecasters play a major role in the valuation process. Due to the short time frame appropriated for finishing the transactions, forecasters should be quick in examining the assumptions set by the project team regarding price, expense, revenue and investment forecasts.
