The Water's Fine
Article Abstract:
The IBM System-36 and Manufacturing Accounting and Production Information Control System (MAPICS) purchased by Coleman Company (Wichita, Kansas) help Coleman run its acquired companies while allowing those companies a large amount of autonomy. One acquired company, O'Brien (Seattle, Washington), uses IBM 5251 terminals to emulate 3270 workstations using a 3705 controller attached to Wichita's 3083 mainframe. MAPICS helps O'Brien have better access and the ability to do most daily work in Seattle. MAPICS modules presently in operation are accounts payable, product data management, and inventory management.

A Fine Piece Of Equipment, But..
Article Abstract:
The International Business Machines Personal Computer Advanced Technology (IBM PC AT) features a twenty megabyte hard disk which is twice the capacity of the IBM XT. It also has a redesigned keyboard with a larger shift key and enter key. The AT also offers greater speed. A problem with the AT is the fact that information on an AT high capacity diskette can not be read by the IBM PC or XT. Another problem is the shortage of AT parallel serial adapter cards which are necessary for proper operation of the computer. A photograph of the author is included.
