The Web makes even this election seem interesting
Article Abstract:
The 1996 presidential election campaign may lack excitement, but the Web has plenty of sites that will keep voters informed, and entertained as well. The candidate's Web sites tend to be as shallow as their campaign advertising, and sites that 'broadcast' the debates over the Web are equally uninteresting. Several sites are available that offer an intelligent analysis of the issues, recent poll results, current news and trends. One of the best of these sites is PoliticsNow (politicsnow.com), which is a joint effort between ABC News, Newsweek, the Los Angeles Times, the Washington Post and the National Journal. A regular visit to this site will keep any voter well informed. CNN and Time magazine's AllPolitics site (AllPolitics.com) is also an excellent source of campaign information and features a daily tracking poll. Vote Smart (vote-smart.org) is a voter education project that offers information from the state legislature level to the presidential campaign.

Sites to visit if you want to take a walk on the Web
Article Abstract:
The Internet's World Wide Web has received extensive press recently, but most of the offerings on the Web are boring, but interesting sites that cover humor, politics, finance and entertainment are available. Feed, found at http://www.feedmag.com, is an interesting Web-based magazine that covers a wide range of issues including affirmative action and the Unabomber. Worthwhile political offerings on the Web include the left-oriented Feminist Majority site at http://www.feminist.org/, and the right-oriented Christian Coalition Web site found at http://www.cc.org/. Humor is well represented on the Web. The Dilbert Web site, based on Scott Adams Dilbert comic strip, is hilarious. Dilbert is found at http://www.unitedmedia.com/comics/dilbert/. Free stock performance information can be obtained from MIT's site at http://www.ai.mit.edu/stocks/graphs.html.

One Web magazine avoids mediocrity of usual on-line fare
Article Abstract:
The reduced cost and increased availability of publishing on the Web has led to a general decline in the quality and thoroughness of the journalism presented online. However, several high-quality Web magazines are able to avoid the generally sophomoric and unprofessional tenor of many online magazines. The Feed online journal provides the most thoughtfully designed and produced material available on the Web, focusing on sophisticated topics with depth many others lack. The programming innovations in Feed include captioned hyperlinks that provide users with information on a subject's related sites before they click on them. Further, each article in the magazine has an attendant discussion page. Only the slow introduction of new articles and the lack of a table of contents hamper Feed's overall effect.
