The autonomy of foreign subsidiaries
Article Abstract:
Studies of over 400 multinational firms in France, Mexico and the U.S. indicate that autonomy of affiliates is influenced by two major factors: (1) the degree of interchange of products between the local affiliate and the rest of the multinational group, and (2) the ownership strategy adopted by the parent firm. Local environmental factors had little direct influence on the autonomy index.

The Determinants and Effects of United States Foreign Direct Investment
Article Abstract:
A multinational company (MC) deals in more than one nation's market. MC's have grown in number since World War II. But foreign investment requires careful management, and political risks are ever-present.
