The Sydney Futures Exchange (SFE), which has been transformed from a traditional trading company with a trading floor into an information technology company focused on the electronic marketplace, will merge in 2001 with technology developer and automated clearing house, Austraclear. The Australian Derivatives Exchange will open for business in January 2001, to compete directly with SFE.
