The cotton club
Article Abstract:
The Australian agricultural enterprise Twynam Group bucked the trend to go public when it acquired Colly Farms Cotton Ltd. in March 1999 and took the cotton producer private. Twynam founder Johnny Kahlbetzer found that the stockmarket did not understand agribusiness. With the Colly Cotton takeover, Twynam has assets of more than $500 million. Colly markets 22% of the nation's crop. Kahlbetzer claims that Twynam is an environmentally-aware company, and the company may stand to reap financial rewards for being so with emission credits.
