The failure of the federal government, the high court and the Dawson inquiry to strengthen section 46 of the Trade Practices Act, which is intended to protect small business from abuses of market power by big business, is raising the anger of smrall business interests. The planned inquiry shall bring the big business, the government, the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) and the High Court to the table to listen to the grievances of the small business.

Labor names its targets
Article Abstract:
Small business spokesman Bob McMullan presents the five biggest problems that small businesses have which are trade practices, red tape, late payments to small business, a lack of representation and the need for better protection of franchisees. The labor party intends to make section 46 of the Trade Practices Act, which deals with abuse of market power, which is a key issue.

Red-tape power struggle

The Federal Government's attempts to bulldoze the local governments and councils into regulatory reforms that would reduce red tape and be conducive to local industries and small businesses is discussed. Fran Bailey, the Minister for Small Business is seeking suggestions from councils failing which regulations could be imposed unilaterally.
