Color printers in color
Article Abstract:
The Epson Color Stylus 740i sells for $249, with $30 dollar rebate currently available. The printer comes with covers that match the color schemes of the iMac. Its resolution is 1,440 by 720 dpi, produced by a four color print cartridge. The ink jet uses micro piezo technology to apply dots as fine as six pico liters to the paper, the smallest on the market presently. The peripheral can connect via USB, serial, or parallel ports. USB, the only connection on an iMac, transfers data at 1.5 MB per second, about 10 times faster than a serial port. Apple Computer introduced an new Powerbook G3 with a 400 MHz G3 chip. The laptop will list for $3,499. A 333 MHz version sells for $2,499. These models have 6 and 4 GB hard drives respectively. Apple advertises a 5 hour battery life for both machines.

Windows in iMac clothing
Article Abstract:
The Emachines eOne computer sells for $799. The monitor and processing unit share the same enclosure, a design Apple Computer may protest. The eOne has a 433 mHz Celeron processor, 64 MB RAM, 6.4 GB hard drive, a floppy drive, a 24x CD-ROM drive, 2 USB ports, a serial port, a parallel port, and game, audio, and video ports. A similarly configured 32 MB RAM iMac costs $1199. Its 433 mHz G3 chip is a more powerful processor, and Turbo Rage video card somewhat faster. It has 2 USB ports only, and no floppy drive. For most home users, the eOne would perform the same functions as the iMac at a lower cost.
