The Internet is causing businesses to rethink their strategies for profit and competitive marketing. Internet commerce is expected to grow by $5 billion in each of the next five years. In traditional business, it took two or three years to create and sell a product. The Internet allows any company to enter a market anywhere at scale overnight. Cut-throat competitors are being phased out and are collaborating on electronic infrastructure. Companies are now using integrated approaches, such as software programs, analysis, staff training, and call centers, to attract customers.

E-commerce volume is expected to reach at least $US200 billion by 2000, with the number of transactions increasing for both electronic data interchange and the Internet.
