The nature, social organization and promotion of management research: towards policy
Article Abstract:
There has been extensive debate in the UK for many years about the purpose and scope of management research. However, it is widely agreed that management research does not operate a single agreed ontological or epistemological paradigm. It is a soft, applied area of study, showing features of both 'engineering' and 'craft' orientations. It is clear that management theory must be made more relevant to the work of practice. If this is to be the case, it will be necessary to identify new ways of formulating and employing knowledge.
