The needs of R&D professionals in their first and second managerial appointments: are they being met?
Article Abstract:
The changes in research and development (R&D) approaches have affected the responsibilities and the needs of R&D professionals according to a survey involving first- and second-time R&D managers. Although majority of R&D professionals managed both the research and the development units, more than 40% of the respondents concentrate on either the research or the development sector only. Moreover, while majority of the managers have attended more than one management seminars, a large number of them have never read any books or literature on R&D administration.

Article Abstract:
The 7th annual conference of the International Assn of the Management of Technology was held on Feb 16-10, 1998. Over 280 papers from nearly 40 countries were submitted during the conference. These papers focused on various subjects such as strategic management control of research and development (R&D) activities, impact of R&D investment on firm innovative performance in Brazil and the US and methodologies to facilitate the comparison of the performance of R&D projects.

Research assessment exercises are used to evaluate the research and development condition of several universities in UK.
