The path to domestic bliss
Article Abstract:
Australia's household services industry is growing quickly and will eventually outperform tourism as a front-line industry. The household services sector is valued at more than $33 billion, employs 720,000 people, and comprises about 3% of the gross domestic product. The industry is fueled by a market of cash-rich, time-poor, double-income households. Cooking is the biggest outsourced activity, with more than $14 billion spent on meals. Other services, however, such as lawn mowing, house painting, and car washing are all less than 20% outsourced.
