The struggles and rewards afforded by interfaith marriages are examined through the union of Alfred and Eileen Ono. Alfred practices a Japanese form of Buddhism, and Eileen was raised a Roman Catholic. Their decision to raise their children as Buddhists and other marital aspects are presented.

The literary critic and author Edmund Wilson is recalled by philosopher Isaiah Berlin. Wilson and Berlin shared a love for Russian literature and politics and were friends for many years. Berlin describes Wilson as a serious person, who worked hard to achieve the triumphs he did.

A man recounts how he became a food snob once he discovered that there was an intellectual side to food. Some of the mentors who influenced him included Julia Child, and Jean Anthelme Brillat-Savarin. But he feels redeemed because he can cook enjoyable meals for children.
