The resource dependence role of corporate directors: strategic adaptation of board composition in response to environmental change
Article Abstract:
This article examines the resource dependence role of corporate directors using United States airline firms going through deregulation as a sample. The authors argue that the board of directors provide a crucial link to the external environment and conclude that boards generally make appropriate alterations to meet the demands of a changing external environment.

Boards of directors and the adoption of a CEO performance evaluation process: agency - and institutional - theory perspectives

Taking a sample from the hospital industry, the authors apply agency and institutional theories to examine the board's process of evaluating the performance of the chief executive officer. The authors conclude that several factors determine if a board utilizes a formal evaluation process, such as the level of market competition.
