The virtual general manager
Article Abstract:
The concept of the virtual organization has moved from theory to practice which necessitates a reevaluation of the role of the general manager. While there is no clear-cut definition of virtual organization, it is characterized by low levels of infrastructure, fuzzy organization, decentralization and flexible, mobile work. In addition, it is heavily dependent on communications technologies. Given the nature of virtual organizations, virtual general managers must be a unifying force within their respective organizations who able to work both in the real world and in cyberspace. Other attributes are the ability to control networks and the ability to think and work in real time. Above all, they must possess the vision to think of long-term strategies as well as to know when and what kind of change is needed based on the rapid collection of information.

General management revisited
Article Abstract:
General managers can better understand their functions by reflecting on various definitions of management. General management tools such as benchmarking, re-engineering and total quality management are important aspects of understanding and developing management functions. They should also consider the relationship and harmony that exists between organizations and general management. Moreover, general managers should accommodate several perspectives on optimization of self-satisfaction and attainment of business goals using knowledge management and organizational capital. They should also have a clear understanding of the technical, organizational, personal and economic issues associated with their companies and job description.
