Pres Bill Clinton agreed to extend China's most-favored-nation (MFN) status until 1994. Clinton indicated that the MFN status would not be renewed unless China reduced human-rights abuses. Human-rights groups claimed that the agreement was too vague.

OPEC: oil output quotas remain frozen

The dozen nations of OPEC will maintain their current freeze of petroleum production, which began in November of 1994, for six more months or longer. OPEC's greatest challenge is regaining the global market share it has lost.

Weak accord renews production quotas

OPEC oil ministers agreed to reestablish country production quotas to reduce oil production by a little more than one million barrels per day. These quotas had been eliminated during the Persian Gulf War.
