U.S. to pay full cost of hurricane relief in Florida

The US will pay nearly all of the costs associated with disaster relief in Florida following Hurricane Andrew. The government traditionally has paid only 75% of the costs in these situations. Damages could total up to $20 billion.

The Congress approved an appropriations bill to provide disaster relief for victims of hurricanes in Florida, Louisiana and Hawaii and a typhoon in Guam. The package would provide $11.1 billion in aid, a record amount.
