Article Abstract:
Since demutualization of the Australian Stock Exchange (ASX), a working group has moved to create a single official association of stockbrokers, whose purpose would be to foster professionalism in the field. Though a small association already exists, the ASX wants to widen the base of the new organization, excluding the stock exchange financial interests of the original group. The working group's task is to convince potential members of its value.

The Zeta way to risk rating

Australian credit-rating company Zeta is different from others in the industry as it uses publicly available data and does not rate by request. Zeta rates more than 500 listed firms per year using at least five years of information. Ratings are based on profitability, debt servicing, liquidity, asset size, book capitalization, earnings stability and cumulative profitability.

Fine-tuning a portfolio for the times

Prudential-Bache's Australian operation has developed a model portfolio suitable for individual investors. The portfolio, called Private Client SBI, measures its performance against Australia's All Ordinaries Accumulation index.
