The travel and airline industries are receiving some odd good news in the form of travelers who are not afraid to visit world danger zones. Lufthansa is restoring flights to Amman, Jordan and Israel and British Airways is reviving flights to Israel as well. Travelers not following the herd find places like Bali (after the nightclub bombing) more peaceful with less tourists. Though a travel agent specializing in Turkey reports trips are practically nil for her, intrepid people are going where rates are low and tourists are rare.

U.S. citizens traveling this spring are bypassing high-profile amusement parks and prominent urban areas to flee to safer terrain for their holidays. Los Angeles and Orlando, Fla. reported hotel occupancies down 10% compared to this time last year. However, bookings to the Colonian Williamsburg-area has leapt to 12%. With war and terrorism on everyone's mind, visitors are driving to parks and sites with driving distance of urban areas.

Discount hotel rooms sold by websites have revolutionized Australia's travel industry, pushing down room rates and slashing the profitability of many hotel groups in 2003. People in small and medium-size businesses who are price-conscious are most likely to book international hotels via the internet.
