The bid rigging and price fixing scandals that shook the United States insurance industry have had little impact on the Australian Insurance industry. The reason is that the Financial Services Reform Act does not prohibit the contingent commissions in Australia. However, Australian Securities & Investments Commissions is conducting a review of the practices related to insurance brokers in Australia.

Due to the federal elections next year, the Dawson report that relate to mergers and anti-competitive behavior will get bogged down in the parliamentary process. The report makes more than 40 recommendations, including criminal sanctions for executives who collude in cartels, greater fines for anti-competitive behavior and a media code to prevent the ACCC from publicly commenting on cases.
