Which comes first - exporting or production efficiencies? A study of Mexican, Colombian, and Moroccan exporters
Article Abstract:
A group of economists conducted a study to determine the perception that exporters are more efficient than firms which are concerned only with domestic markets. The higher efficiency is allegedly due to the enhanced learning curve of exporters. The economists developed a model of manufacturing facilities from Colombia, Mexico and Morocco and compared their productivity with other plants that were did not export, those who had exporting experience and those which had departed from export markets. The study confirms the production efficiencies of exporting firms but casts doubts on whether the efficiencies are due to exporting experience.

When teammates raise a white flag
Article Abstract:
Managers who are members of a decision-making team often fail to contribute because a member is already perceived to be an expert, a logical argument has already been presented, they are not sure of their ability, the decision to be made does not affect them, there is pressure from other team members and there is frustration. Therefore, team leaders must select the appropriate combination of members and present the significance of the agenda before the meeting starts.

Toward greater understanding in the workplace
Article Abstract:
Managers should realize that handicapped employees are entitled to privacy of information and to carry out decisions concerning their lives. To promote the effective management of handicapped employees, managers should consult human resource and legal professionals on how to ease the tension between the ethical principles of beneficence and autonomy. They should also be broad-minded in evaluating handicapped employees against their past performances.
