Workstations For Executives
Article Abstract:
The Executive System ES-1 is a new executive workstation designed by Santa Barbara Development Labs (SBDL) in Santa Barbara, California. It is the elite of executive stations as it contains several functions: personal computer capabilities; video teleconferencing and a multi-use telephone system. An executive can learn to use eighty percent of its capabilities within thirty minutes as there is no need for keyboard instruction or manuals. It is voice-controlled. The cost is thirty thousand dollars. Four groups of investors provided a total of three million dollars in venture funds. Competitors for the ES-1 are the Apple Lisa, the Hewlett-Packard 150 Computer and the Xerox Star. All are lower-priced, but with fewer capabilities. SBDL expects 1.5 million dollars in profits based on the projected sale of 250 machines in its first year. A photograph of Michael Cheiky, founder of SBDL is included.

Executive Workstations
Article Abstract:
Executive work stations have become more sophisticated with telephone systems being integrated into a computerized environment. Choices available range from simple terminals to personal computers to telephone terminals. Internal network systems are also available. The integrated telephone display terminal is still in its infancy, according to Advanced Resources Development of Medfield, Massachusetts, but shipments of more than thirty-two thousand units in 1983 were valued at forty-three million dollars. A chart lists twelve manufacturers of executive work stations with their addresses, phone numbers and contact persons.

Article Abstract:
There are various social, technological and communications infrastructure factors involved in improving the competitive situation in Mexico. While there are many professional employees who are performing well, there are perceived cultural problems among employees of small and medium-sized firms on compliance with schedules and the maintenance of programs and productivity. The important challenge is to institute changes in organizational culture which would promote the culture of quality.
