World braces for asset sales, exports crush: Asian economies are adopting the Western business model to export their way out of trouble
Article Abstract:
Australia will be greatly affected by the resolution of the Asian economic crisis. Liquid Singapore investment houses are in the best position because they know the businesses that are worth buying. The US could do well in South Korea because the economic and business structure is the same as it has been since US troops entered the country in the 1950s. It is uncertain what will happen in Indonesia. These issues were discussed at the 1998 World Economic Forum.

Asian crash will test Wall Street
Article Abstract:
The economic crisis and possible recessions along the Asian-Pacific Rim will impact Wall Street, the US economy in general, and Australia. The Asian crisis, with its roots in faulty Japanese financing, may benefit the US. Australia faces a loss of exports, particularly in tourism, rural enterprises, and resource projects in the Asian market. A rising US dollar may benefit companies that have assets and profitable operations in the US.

Warning: prepare your finances for a slowdown
Article Abstract:
The Australian economy could slow down between Jan 1, 2000 and Jun 30, 2000 due to an attempt to increase workers' salaries, an expected increase in executive salaries and a potential increase in inflation. An increase in productivity could alleviate these potential slowing down forces in the economy.
