You can't expect rationality from pregnant men: reflections on multi-disciplinarity in management research
Article Abstract:
The multi-disciplinary research approach is the only approach that can be used in management. The academic discipline is discussed to support this view. The problems and compensations of the distinctive multi-disciplinary nature of management are described, including difficulties in communication between specialities and the resistance to multi-disciplinary research into management. Management is a loose grouping of many disciplines, subjects, fields and topics, and management research will always be multi-disciplinary in practice.

Theorizing managerial work: a pragmatic pluralist approach to interdisciplinary research
Article Abstract:
Management research can benefit from interdisciplinary insights relating to issues of human inidviduality. There are some who advocate an isolationist strategy but this leads to artificial and stultifying 'either/or' choices. A pragmatic pluralist strategy however enables researchers to draw on elements from various disciplines, producing their own personal paradigm as a basis for a particular piece of research. Reference to an ethnographic study of managerial work is provided.
