A land of castles
Article Abstract:
Switzerland boasts of having 3,000 castles, ancient mansions and ruins that have great economic and cultural value. Some of the castles have been residences of great dynasties such as the hilltop castles at Tarasp, Thun and Gruyere. Castles vibrated with life and entertainment during the period of nobility but the French Revolution caused the Swiss people to lose interest in castles. Whole sites were allowed to decay while some were being sold for scrap. By the 20th century, castles have become weekend retreats for the wealthy.
