The Gujarat Narmada Valley Fertilisers Co Ltd (GNFC) posted sales of Rs1,223.48 crore in 1997-98. Its gross profit was Rs219.54 crore. It was able to achieve over 100 percent capacity utilisation at its ammonia and urea plants. GNFC recorded 123 percent capacity utilisation at its Methanol-I and Methanol-II plants. It manufactured 147,403 tonnes of methanol, 9,314 tonnes of formic acid, 62,186 tonnes of acetic acid, 232.095 tonnes of weak nitric acid, 32,054 tonnes of concentrated nitric acid, 155,704 tonnes of ammonium nitrophosphate and 170,738 tonnes of calcium ammonium nitrate. Its production of printed circuit boards was around 25,883 square metres. GNFC is setting up a 100 tonnes per day concentrated nitric acid plant at a cost of Rs32 crore. GNFC plans to expand its acetic acid capacity to 100,000 tonnes per annum and set up an ammonia-urea complex. (ag)

Deepak Fertilisers (DF), which is operating its methanol plant and complex fertilisers plant at near capacity level, will benefit by the Rs500 per tonne hike in the farmgate price of urea. DF posted a sales turnover of Rs405 crore in 1997-98 (Rs297 crore in 1996-97). Its net profit was Rs50 crore (Rs29.16 crore). Its methanol plant has a production capacity of more than one lakh tonnes per annum. (gs)
