A U.S. company may join proposed telecom merger

Telecom Italia SpA and Deutsche Telekom AG are engaged in negotiations with a third telecom company in the US about possibly joining in their planned merger. BellSouth Corp. and SBC Communications Inc. are two of the possible American partners. A three-way deal is designed to strengthen the $76 billion merger. Both Telecom Italia and Deutsche Telekom have yet to decide if the new partner would be given a share in the merged entity.

Skoda Plzen to continue restructuring
Article Abstract:
Jiri Hlavica, the new head of Skoda Plzen AS, said that the restructuring at the company will continue. Mr. Hlavica hopes that the restructuring will allow Skoda to keep as many workers as possible. Skoda is an engineering conglomerate. The company will continue to reorganize its subsidiaries and seek foreign investors who can aid in the rebuilding of Skoda.
