A distance assignment approach to the facility layout problem
Article Abstract:
The quadratic assignment problem (QAP) used to solve facility layout problems is solved using the distance assignment problem (DAP) as an alternative. The DAP assigns distances between sites to pairs of departments within a facility through a linear programming code and a three-step heuristic algorithm. The first two steps of the algorithm provide a lower bound in the solution to the QAP based on penalty costs derived from reduced costs of the DAP solution.

Input control in a batch production system with lead times, due dates and random yields
Article Abstract:
Models of production control are assessed within a system allowing for random yields. An optimal input control policy is suggested which allows next batch size needs to be assessed.
