A ghost lurks
Article Abstract:
The Commonwealth of Indepednent States (CIS) has held a summit which has discussed the need for cooperation on anti-terrorism measures. Russian prime minister, Vladimir Putin, has performed well at the summit, and is focusing on Russian elections, scheduled for Mar 26 2000. A unification treaty between Russia and Belarus has been ratified, and a joint parliament is to be elected. Petroleum supplies and pipelines are a key issue between CIS countries. There have also been some differences of opinion between Russia and Georgia.

Article Abstract:
There is a growing movement to have a unifying body of the Commonwealth of Independent States, and Russia is becoming more dominant over the other republics. Belarus and Kazakhstan already want to rejoin with Russia, and others may follow.
