A hierarchical approach for one-dimensional cutting stock problems in the steel industry that maximizes yield and minimizes overgrading
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to analyze a hierarchical algorithm called DYNACUT-CS that produces cutting patterns for a material that is to be cut at cold saws, a one-dimensional cutting stock problem common in the steel industry. A problem of 700 customer order pieces was solved using the algorithm in less than three seconds using a 486 personal computer. Results indicated the applicability of the formulation and algorithm in the metals industry.
